Cellular carriers do not insure the iPhone, Apple does have it's own protection program at an additional cost. The OP should check the Apple internet site for details.

AT&T offered me insurance on my iPhone. It is available.

You only have 30 days to add insurance to a phone, after that time period it is too late.

Although it may still require you to add it to a policy within 90 days of purchase. YMMV, as usual. More options, including Square Trade (like Apple Care).
