iPhone 4 hotspot

I currently use my iPhone 4 (AT&T) as a mobile hotspot for my iPad 2. I'm wondering what type of Wifi security the iPhone provides. Could someone connect to my iPhone 4 hotspot without me knowing? Is it using WPA2 security/encryption? Is there a way to make the iPhone 4 hotspot more secure?
