ipaq 4150/55-4350/55 availability

Nov 8, 2004 6:38PM PST

Hello all,
I have been looking for the 4155 or 4355 or twin models 4150 and 4350 in a brick and mortar store for week or so. The stores around here are out of them and they do not know if they will get them in. ComUSA and Best Buy have told me in the Miami, FL area that they will no longer carry the model and that it is discontinued or close to being discontinued. This is coming from their sales staff at 3 stores that according to them logged into their system to check their status. They told me they will now carry the new "media companion" line. I am a business user that wants some fun but I have tried the new media companions and find their media software lacking and inmature. I rather have a solid pda that I don't have worry about utilities I will not use on the road. If that is the case I will rather have the dell models because of the aster cpu.
Does anyone know if HP will discontinue that line soon and when that will be? Is teh 4150 and 4350 obsolete already?

thank you,

Let me share that Best Buy and such buy by the lot and discontinued to them means they sold that lot. Also, any unit you buy is essentially discontinued when you buy it since such devices are built in one big push, then a new model is next... It's rare for a second or more run of a specific model.

Bob,
thanks for the reply. I looked in pdabuyersguide.com and they do say the ipaq 4150 model is being phased out for the rx3000 series. With that said, I also found another of your replies to a previous message where you have my other option, the dell x30, in your "wish list". After reading the reviews in the website and checking dell, I got the dell x30 624mhz. The shipping sucks as mine is expected to ship on the 22nd but with a 15% discount which puts it at under $300, free shipping, the faster cpu, the newer version of the OS and the fact the model is almost a year newer, the 4150 was a great choice but the dell was kind of a no brainer.

thank you,

"Sweet."

I've delayed my X30 purchase for simple reasons. My Palm units are still working and while I know I want the WiFi, I also know that as I delay the price seems to go down a little which isn't the main reason for the hesitation. I know that competition will be trying to match/exceed that unit. For me, right or wrong it would be bragging rights to get the 1.0 GHz PDA. But I know that's not a good idea, but such thoughts continue anyway.

My price goes up because I want either a bigger battery or a second one. I don't remember which.

It's still my top item on the wish list.
