Question

iPad power cord

Jul 1, 2012 12:20AM PDT

You know the iPad power cord that comes with it is very very short. Duh, just realized could I just add another usb cable to it to make it longer? And along that line of thinking would any of my other usb wall adapters work?

ps....why in my box of cables would I have bought a male to male usb cable? And a female to female adapter?

USB extension cables?

Too many to find at newegg.com, geeks.com, amazon.com. Sorry but retail outlets seem a little pricey for this cable.

No extension cable

Just a regular usb cable fits between the iPad cable & the wall plug. The iPad cable is a standard usb plug that goes into the iPad wall adapter. So I can use any usb cable I have laying around to extend it, right? And any usb wall power adapter would work too.

and tried it, it works. Added a regular standard usb cable to the iPad cable and plugged it into the iPad power brick. It's charging. So I suppose I could use any usb power brick adapter like my Griffin that has 2 usb ports on it.

Not necessarily,

the adapter has to be at least 10W or it will not charge the iPad.

I have an adapter that will charge my iPhone but does nothing for the iPad.

When I wonder about doing things like this can I just try it or could I actually damage my device by using the wrong cable or plug or something? If it fits can I try it? Like my Garmin GPS. I found a longer cable in my box with the mini B plug that fits. I think it was from an old Sony camera. Can I use it? Then I won't have to post questions here.

By all means do that

If it fits at both ends, you should be OK.

Just be careful of the power adapter thing. Know what voltage your device is looking for and stick with that.

Cables shouldn't be a problem

Oh yes, feel free to ask as many questions as you want. There is no limit
