Question

ipad 2 update to iOS8 - Huge Mistake, Need Help

Jan 24, 2015 2:32AM PST

At my son's urging, I updated my iOS7 on my ipad 2 to iOS8, and have had problems since doing so. I have read many posts on Apple's forum, but my problem seems to be different, and I'm wondering if it might be a setting I'm overlooking, as no one else mentions this issue.

I might have several tabs at the top open, such as my email, FB, and a forum or 2. When I switch from one to the other, it acts like it loses the connection or something, because I now have to log in every time I switch back and forth, which is quite irritating. I never had to do this with the old system. Any info would be much appreciated!

If it's that unique

I fear that no one will know the answer, even the Apple store. HOWEVER a buddy had some issues and after we did a full reset (wiped user files and more) it came up like a new tablet and has behaved since then. Some owners loathe doing such.

Basically, wiping it back to factory state, then upgrading to iOS 8 should take care of the corruption you are encountering. While an iPad 2 does technically *run* iOS 8, it does not do it well IME.

If wiping the device does not take care of the issue, see if a kind soul at the Apple store would offer you a monetary voucher towards a newer iPad, etc. They sometimes will do this for Apple product owners. YMMV. They are more likely to do this if you are the original owner and there is no water damage (they will usually check for it). It will obviously vary by manager and situation. Apple does stand by their brand, however. For example, you can still get a great OOWS (out of warranty service) replacement iPhone at a reduced price than having to buy a replacement from a carrier before the end of a contract. Even with the overall popularity of the iPhone, this is not commonly known info.
People just give up and pay the full monty with their carriers because that's all they think is available.

Good luck.

Not only iPad 2, it's a bug
Jan 25, 2015 1:53AM PST

I passed my iPad 2 down to my son and got a new iPad Air. The problem she describes is Safari reloads pages, which it did not do on ios7.
In some cases, no big deal, in others a pain in the rear.
Dumping cache and generally clearing out Safari has not fixed the problem, nor has restoring or rebooting, or resetting settings.
It's kind of a crap shoot, I never know which page will reload or when.

So it works, but annoying.

I read that other web browsers are now out for iPad. This sounds more like a Safari bug or setting than iOS issues.

My side note to OP was, you should access Facebook and mail from the apps, not browser. You can double click home button to quickly switch between applications.

Well, after doing much clicking and reading last night, I found a post on another forum that said to go to the upper right of the page on your screen, and click on the icon that looks like pages. There is a setting there that you can check "private browsing" that will take care of this, and it worked! I can put up with the erratic scrolling and other little glitches I am experiencing, but this problem was a major PITA.

Ilovemynote, I hope this will help with your problems also.

Glad you found a workaround, but...

...why *are* you bothering using an iPad browser to access FB(?) The app is about nine million times more useful Wink

FB App
Jan 25, 2015 11:51AM PST

I *am* using the FB app. However, I use a web-based email and visit several web-based forums that require a log in. Even using the FB app, it was logging me off whenever I switched to a different tab. As I said in my previous post, clicking on "private browsing" fixed the problem.

Yes, hate logging in...

It does keep the page from reloading, but of course my auto logins won't work.

Thanks!

Just one, then eject that app.

Do the full factory reset on the ipad. Try again. A buddy had other app trouble and that cleared it up.
