Iowa Internet Rip off...

Jan 22, 2014 8:50AM PST

Our rural telephone co-op, which claims to have cutting edge internet service, just started putting caps on service. I am reading about poor internet service and feel for everyone. This co-op really has everyone over a barrel, considering there are no other internet providers in the area. We are hoping that will change. For anyone of you interested in net neutrality and companies doing whatever they want, you might want to read the information on this petition. The information and comments on the left-hand side will give you a background on what we're dealing with. To me, it seems like we are being misinformed and we are definitely being screwed out of money.

It's just disheartening. I live in one of these small communities and if you have the time, really peruse the information on the petition page. I am not promoting the petition-it just contains the back-and-forth dialogue between the inept general manager and the poor citizens he is representing. Some people are eeking by to make a living and may make their living from home on the internet. This co-op has been financially stable for years and there are many ways in which the co-op could generate more revenue.

Email and such don't eat much data. Netflix has been getting, well, you tell us. Is it a free ride?

Maybe folk will cut the service and get back to the library for access?
