Question

iOS to Windows Remote Desktop

Dec 20, 2016 5:07PM PST

I use my Pc's IP address on my Ipad 2 remote desktop app and it comes up with the same error message every time no matter what combination I try. including using my PC name instead of IP, with or without a port number, and also with and without subnets and gateways. This is for iOS to Windows 10. When I try to connect on my Ipad 2 the message reads "unable to connect to remote pc. please verify remote desktop is enabled, the remote pc is turned on and available on the network, and then try again." please help.

And are you IN CONTROL of all firewalls?

I've lost count of router firewalls that block this and more. Also, this is usually on a LAN since over the internet I no longer support that.

Firewall
Dec 21, 2016 11:44AM PST

I disabled my Firewall entirely and also tried it with creating a setting that allows remote desktop, so I have ruled out firewall.

What about the router firewall?
Dec 21, 2016 12:00PM PST

Also I've caught security suites that show the firewall is off yet the suite still blocked. That was super annoying. Had to uninstall that package.

Imgur since I can with do that easy enough. You don't need to embed the images and links will do just fine for this run.

Screen shots
Dec 21, 2016 1:21PM PST

I can do screen shots of every step man, but so far I have tried everything but got nothing. I'm not sure if my router has a firewall though I am still looking into that. when I'm on the netgear admin page it has every option other than firewall.

I'm getting FORBIDDEN on the screenshots.
Dec 21, 2016 1:24PM PST

But the story so far reads just like the usual firewall issue.

I don't see details about the router and modem so I can't point out where I might look (if there are manuals for them out there.)

the spi firewall setting was under WAN and I disabled it however that also was not the answer I got the same iOS error as in the image I sent in the URL.

I may have to leave this to you and your support.
Dec 21, 2016 1:37PM PST

The images are forbidden, make and models numbers left out and no answer to if it ever worked.

I don't know how you get support but here it all depends on the details.

Then it's either a forgotten firewall.
Dec 21, 2016 2:16PM PST

I've lost count how many times that was it.

Or the W10 Remote Desktop is not enabled and setup. READ THE HOWTOGEEK TO SEE JUST HOW DEEP THIS GOES. It's not intuitive, is it?

"You should be able to follow this guide as long as you’re using one of these editions of Windows:

Windows 10 Professional ..."

This is a lot of posts we have here and I can't tell yet if you have the required OS or have setup Windows to serve this up. It appears that's the issue behind all the trouble.

http://www.techrepublic.com/article/making-windows-remote-desktop-connection-work-with-multiple-monitors/ repeats this requirement for serving up the connection.

Do you have Windows 10 Pro or better?

If you want to try remote desktop apps if your OS is not meeting the requirements there are other ways to get to the W10 machine.

For years I used VNC which has so many options that I can't start a new conversation about.

If you want to chat about VNC and other remote desktop apps, just start a new discussion.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_remote_desktop_software lists the dozens of remote desktop software so all you need is the app for W10 and iOS.
