Question

Iomega Zip 250 Drive Letter

Jun 5, 2014 5:53AM PDT

I'm using a Zip Drive (parallel port & with power cord) that I've used for many years and have a dozen disks. In Win XP, I recently reinstalled it and that went OK; however, I can't find it in the assigned Drive Letters. A search for "iomega" finds five files but none 'launches' the program or the drive. Any suggestions?
YES, the device light is on.
I do have a printer, but it uses USB port.
Thanks

Answer
Frankly? With all the prior discussions.

I strongly suggest you try it on some Linux Live distro, get your files out and then move on. The remaining ZIP owners often explode over this one but even I made the move off Zip drives. Too dangerous a thing to keep around.

PS. Can't figure why you noted USB. It's not as if we can't unplug the printer while we get the files out.

Sorry, hadn't read priors...

Bob: Have never heard of Linux Live distro. I know a few Zippers myself, but they didn't have an answer either. I've had mine since the nineties, and I'm unhurt thus far. Luckily I have another XP that displays the drive letter and allows me to erase the files. Oh, and the extra info on the printer...in case you thought I had two parallel ports and the PC was confused. Thanks, anyway. I'll search for answers in your archives.

Ahh.

When I read "I do have a printer, but it uses USB port." I took that as if you could not use the USB port.

As to prior discussions, too many about the Parallel Port model, BIOS settings and then about the Live CD. I'm sure I'm not the only one that wrote about this over the years. http://tips.oncomputers.info/archives2004/0401/2004-Jan-11.htm is over 10 years ago. There are newer versions which should have Zip drive support.
