IOGear USB Wireless Print Server won't print from Mac OS X

Aug 20, 2005 8:46AM PDT

I have an IOGear USB Wireless Print Server connected to an HP Laserjet 1012 that works great when I print to it from my Windows machines. I also have a PowerBook G3 running OSX 10.3.9 that I would like to be able to print to the Laserjet 1012 from using the IOGear wireless print server. Since both my Wintel and Mac machines are using IPP to print to the wireless print server, I just assumed that if I got the Wintel machines printing, then I could easily get my Mac printing to it. Boy was I wrong with that assumption!

After buying the IOGear print server and reading the documentation that came with it, it states that it will only work with a Macintosh if the printer is a postscript printer. Since the Laserjet 1012`is not a postscript printer, the PowerBook won't print to it. I've tried using the Gimp-Print drivers to print from my PowerBook, but they don't allow the PowerBook to print either.

Does anyone know of a way that I can get my PowerBook, running OSX 10.3.9, to print over the IOGear USB Wireless Print Server? I really don't see what difference it makes whether the print stream is coming from a Wintel or a Mac if they are both using IPP. If anyone has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it.

Pick another model.

Do a little research and you see you are not alone. Pack it up if IOGear doesn't fix and try another make.

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of ...

I was afraid of that answer! I haven't looked around, but I figured that there were other wireless print servers that didn't require the printer be a postscript printer to work with OS X.

I am just not looking forward to shelling out another $80 or so for a new print server when the one I already bought is still good (except for the Mac problem of course).
