invisible external hard drive

Jan 21, 2005 12:03AM PST

I have installed a Maxtor usb external hard drive on my lap top running XP. It says it is correctly installed. The device driver section says everything is working correctly but When I open my pc - I can't actually see an icon for the drive so I can't do anything with it. I have checked for updated drivers and it says that drivers are up-to-date.
I'd very much appreciate any ideas - thanks
JH
