invalid win32 application

Mar 7, 2004 9:47PM PST

I am having a problem installing programs I downloaded and installing them on my Windows XP. I think I might have a virus or something. I ran the house call virus scan and it said I was clean. If anyone can help , please let me know.

Depending on what the icon looks like next to it, I would think it looks like an old dos box with the blue border. If so, you might try using the EXPAND command at the COMMAND PROMPT box...that's worked for me a couple of times already.

Type EXPAND and the path to the file.

I did a SEARCH for CMD.EXE first and then dragged a shortcut to it into my QuickLaunch area to make the command prompt box easy to get to.

If you can provide the names of the program and the site to check such out, we may find that the installer software needs this or that.

You left out the critical information. The NAME of the program.

1. A virus already exists.

Maybe you noted it, but do try a HOUSECALL scan.

2. A download accelerator was in use during the download.

If so, uninstall that and download again.

In a pinch, have someone else download it, put it on CDR and hand it to you.

This could also mean there's an error in the downloaded file, or an error during download, or it's an old MS-DOS program, or even that you try to install a Linux or Macintosh file.
