Invalid o/s choice on bootup (XP Pro)

Mar 2, 2004 11:13AM PST

A series of power failures blitzed my file system, and in order to recover without losing valuable data, I installed a parallel copy of XP on the same partition, ran chkdsk, and successfully repaired the problem. I've been successful in removing the second installation, except for the screen on bootup which offers me the choice between the new (now invalid) installation and the original. Is there a way to get rid of this option screen? Many thanx in advance.

Under Windows 2000 Pro I would open up Control Panel > System > Advanced > Startup and Recovery. Then I would uncheck the Display list of operating systems for [ ] seconds.

It may be a little different for XP yet similar.

Edit the C:\BOOT.INI to get rid of that option, Be careful to delete the right one.

Notes: If you cannot edit/save the BOOT.INI, then that file may be been protected.
