Internet troubles with certain programs.

Dec 3, 2003 4:42AM PST

For some reason, when i have mIRC running, my computer will freeze up several times for 10-15 seconds each time and my internet will have cut off.

If anyone knows why this is happening or how to fix it, your help will be appreciated.

mIRC is a problem child in that it can be used in certain ways to send a trojan, report your IP to others to flood your connection and for now, I'd stop using it until you are sure your machine is free from Trojans, Worms, Virus and other parasites.

Use the tools to scan and if you want, remove such pests.

"My computer is definatly clear of viruses and such."

The issue is not a virus. Your choice to scan for the rest of the pests. And people are just being too cruel and flooding mIRC user's IP addresses. Results can be as you noted.

Do the noted scans, consider what you can live without.

Some pass up the Housecall scan.

It's worth running since a few trojan/virus will alter the onboard AV to ignore the pest.

Best of luck,

I'll write no.

You may want to consider a firewall since XP is pretty susceptible to many internet issues. The Security Forum is a good place to ask what's current.

Driver issues?
Dec 3, 2003 1:08PM PST

Does any software/hardware upgrade coincide with your problems? I have a WinME PC that freezes up when any sound plays - there is a contention issue between the audio driver and internet access. Anything special happening when mIRC freezes?
