Something I did without thinking. Anyway, since I never
turn off the router or modem, I forgot what to do ( and felt stupid when the tech pointed it out). First, plug the computer straight into the modem. Then goto Start-Run-Command-and try IPCONFIG( if you don't remember the numerical IP address). Close firewall and virus protection first(hate that part), then open a browser and logon using that number. Troubleshoot from there. If this gets you back to where you need to be, plug everything back in and reconfigure your router.
If not, then check ethernet card, settings, etc. If the Ecard is dead, think about replacing with a Gigabit card for about the same price(in most places). Go forward, it will be of use later. chuck
Yesterday night my internet was working fine and then this morning when I tried to get online it would not connect. I am working on Windows 2000. I have a cable modem and go through a router that has three computers on it. The other two computers are still working. I checked the cord which seems to be working fine. The strange thing is that when I boot up the computer the router light goes on and the ethernet card green light goes on, but once the windows start up screen finishes the ethernet card light goes out and so does the router light.
I tried running symantec antivirus, adaware, and spy bot and none of that seems to help.
When I type in ipconfig/renew I get Error: no adapters bound to TCP/IP are enabled for DHCP.
I also tried a couple of things but none of them seem to work.
1) I tried using the LSP fix that didn't work
2) I tried winsockfix which also didn't do anything.
3) I tried uninstalling the ethernet card and then reinstalling. When I uninstalled the drive and then rebooted the ethernet card green light stayed on through the start up. The router light also stayed on. However I was not able to acess the internet. Then the computer told me that it found new hardware and that it was automatically installed. Then when I rebooted, the ethernet card light and the router light stayed on until the middle of the windows start up screen and then went off.
I am not sure what I should do? Is the problem a virus or did my ethernet card die. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have not tried reinstalling windows yet. I am getting ready to just clean the computer and start from scratch but if I could avoid that it would be nice. Thank you in advance.
