Question

Internet Speed

Jul 20, 2016 9:59AM PDT

A few months ago I checked this with a speedtest and got roughly the results DOWNLOAD c. 2.2 Mbps, UPLOAD c.1 Mbps.
Today I tried again as the system seemed a bit low and got
DOWNLOAD 1.1 - 1.2 Mbps, UPLOAD c. 0.9 Mbps
a) how do I find where the speed is going (half my DOWNLOAD gone)
b) what can I do about it

This moves around a lot.

For example, the worst time for me to run this speed test is about 6 to 7 PM. My guess is the Netflix use is way up there.

You also need to try a reboot of the modem and router than be sure you are the only user. Finally, do it without WiFi.

Thanks for that. I've switched everything off and back on again. Does that count as a reboot? My PC is directly connect to a WiFi router an that's how I operate. It may be faster when connected directly into telephone socket but that cant be a long term solution. I've lloked at Add-Ons and run Task Manager to see if there is anything untoward there but nothing. I'll try again some time.

Telephone socket? Is this DSL?

If so you need to eek out every last bit. WiFi may be convenient but you lose a little time and speed there.

The connection has always been as it is now but with a less powerful router. I just seem to have lost c. 1/2 my Mbps for no apparent reason. Maybe something beyond what I do has changed if my new speed is not due to overload by others as suggested.

Why the change to a lesser router?

OK, how about a test with no router. Maximize what you have?
