Internet speed 26.4

I have contacted BT and Wanadooand checked the settings on my system.I have also changed the connecting cable.My neighbours system is running at 36kbs. I am running XP and have put all the updates on as recommended it no effect.My modem is Intel (R)536 EP.

Your neighbor's web connection is a clue. That's decent connect but not the best but it shows what your area is like. What that means is your dependant on the "telco world" of how it all connects. You should verify all your home taps are clean and corrision free to include the outside dropbox. Reseat or rescrew them back for a 100% connection, clean if neccessary. If even though you've checked the system setting and all that, it won't help much other than to prove its working, as I've siad you're at the mercy of the telco world. Of course, you have to include what modem you have and what ISP, ect. you connect through that may make a difference but only slightly. Also, lets not forget any current telco devices like faxes, multiple telco connects, etc. as all these could effect the speed of a connect. I live in a rural area and the best I ever get is 26.4, but its solid. hope this helps...
