Internet slows down by IBackdoor Wootbot and other Trojans

by muralto / October 25, 2004 2:51 AM PDT

After running (as well as in safe mode as in normal mode) AVG antivirus, AdAware, Xoftspy and NOadware and with the systemrestore disabled, i'll keep on getting trojan announcements like Backdoor Wootbot, trojan Downloader Small. 9x, Dragon, etc. Help me out here please! Running Internet Explorer in safe mode seems to work alright but in normal mode the browser won't work. The same with my e-mailprogram. Does anybody have an solution for this major problem please? i already tried Hijack This, but don't know exactly what to do here. Every time the antivrius- en antispy programs find en fix the problems, but when I restart my computer the terrible ******** are back.

A good start would be to uninstall Xoftspy and NOadware.

Try using the following:

Ad-aware SE - http://www.majorgeeks.com/download506.html
Spybot-Search & Destroy - http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=mirrors

Update the programs prior running a scan.
Reboot after using the programs.

Next, download CWShredder from http://www.intermute.com/spysubtract/cwshredder_download.html
After installing it, run CWShredder.exe and let if fix what it finds.

Reboot when done.

If problem still occur, get VX2 Cleaner Add-on for Ad-aware SE - http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/addons/vx2cleaner.shtml
Follow the provided guide on how to install and use.

If still have problem, run an online scan using Housecall - http://housecall.antivirus.com/housecall/start_corp.asp

If still not OK, download HijackThis from http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/HijackThis.exe

Where to put and how to use HijackThis:

It is important that you will run HijackThis.exe in its own folder so the backup files that HijackThis file will create will not be accidentally deleted.

Open 'My Computer', then double-click to open C:\ (or the drive letter that your Windows is installed)
In the menu bar, click File-->New-->Folder.
That will create a folder named New Folder, which you can rename to "HJT" or "HijackThis". Now you have C:\HJT\ or C:\HijackThis\ folder. Put your HijackThis.exe there, and double click to run it.

Click 'Scan' button. Click 'Save log' button. Save the 'hijackthis.log' in your desktop. Copy and paste the content of 'hijackthis.log' and post it in any forums that offer HijackThis analysis. You can find these forums at http://www.a-sap.org/

Note: Most of the entries in HijackThis are harmless. Do not try to fix anything if you are not use. Seek advise from HijackThis experts that you will find in forums listed in http://www.a-sap.org/ for proper fixes.

You might also want to run an online scan at: http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/com/activescan_principal.htm or

Thanks a lot. I have downloaded the latest add-on from Ad Aware and the system seems to be clean now. I hope that this will stay the same after rebooting in normal mode. Panda could not find any virusses anymore. I'll let you know if everything is okay.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
