Internet Site to Share Large Files

Jul 18, 2004 9:31PM PDT

Hi, not sure if I am on the right forum or not but...

I have xp pro 2.8 ghz with a gig of ram and 160 gig hard drive.

What I am looking for is a internet web site where I can store large files to trade with friends. So they can put files on there too for me. So we can both get on the same site to upload or download private files.

The office had the same issue. I'll share our solution.

We setup an OpenSSH server. The firewall opened Port 22 to that server and it's all secure transfers and more. We've never had any security issue with this.

The server and clients are free (GNU), so it was a clean zero-cost solution.

Get a low cost website with multiple ftp accounts.

http://www.arteryplanet.net

43.00 per year
multiple ftp account control panel - you control everything.

250 megs of space and gigs of data transfer per month.
They have multiple plans for more.

There are others I'm sure, I just know this one.
Do NOT open anonynous FTP.

This will allow web bots access with no password.
They will fill your site in seconds, already had it happen.
