General discussion

internet sharing vista and 7

Sep 3, 2010 11:29AM PDT

been pulling my hair out.
Laptop has Vista, tower has Win 7 w/ internal wireless networking (same as what's in the laptop, so I'm told)
I've created ad hoc network. everything shares except internet connection.
I've been through all the tutorials I can find. Tried everything. All the boxes to share connection have been checked, un checked and re checked. I've done all I can find to do.
Is there an issue between Vista and 7? I had no problem with the sharing between XP and Vista with an external USB networking card - can't even make that work with the new.
One person tells me it's possible, another tells me I have to have a broadband router.
I've tried to bridge connection as another person advised me - doesn't even give me the option between my internet connection and the wireless network connection.
I have Verizon USB aircard for internet.

virtual router

(tower is on all the time, so that's not an issue)

I went through this and downloaded the virtual router for 7 - do you know anything about that? I can't get it to work. It keeps telling me it won't start. I've put in a name, password, selected the connection, and press start - pops up saying it can't start.

Firewall?

I've never heard of the Verizon USB Air Card so I looked it up. I found this YouTube video which I thought would be great and would tell me more,
UnBoxing of my Verizon Wirelss Mobile Broadband Air Card .

Sadly the video is just about that, unboxing the aircard. Why would they send a video in of 'unpacking' anything? Happy

Tell us about your firewall on the Vista system. Does it need to be authorised to accept new network connections? My ZoneAlarm does. It will accept file sharing from within my home network, but any new internet connection also needs my authorisation.

Also, how does Vista assign an IP address on this internet sharing setup? It can't use the same one that the Windows 7 uses, can it?
