slow down.

You say there is a hotspot but if so why would you need to share AGAIN from the Win 8 machine? It's unclear.

And we know there's a lot to cover here.

I'm going to not replicate prior discussions on the web about this. You would do that work but as Norton and others expire you do find issues like this as these block the internet for your protection. Sorry I think that's thuggish.

Since details are so sparse I hope you check what security is on that shared connection.

No..I checked on that..but unfortunately nothing resolved. I just want to know how this internet sharing works from mac to windows 8? Again..Like I created this personal hotspot on my mac by the name of "joe"...and I am able to access wifi internet on my apple devices by connecting to " joe".In windows 8.. I do see the name on my available connections..but when I click on connect..it gives me an error can't connect to this network..Sad

So far, no reports of trouble

Besides the usual. Until a lot more is known, I'm going to peg this as the usual issues. I know it's asking a lot but without details from you, we can't move forward.

lack of detail.

Yes, folk have it working but as you see at http://techpp.com/2012/06/26/share-internet-mac-windows-pc/ and other sites there are so many options that I can't begin to guess which to change.

And we are this far along and even with me dropping hints there is no detail to work with, I have the slimmest of clues here.

For example some laptops have issues with WPA2 TKIP. But did you reveal that? No.

-> Here's the problem as I see it. To discuss the issue means you'll have to be conversant in the lingo and be able to share pictures and even then it's not a sure thing as we know that Windows can have issues. I only listed one.

Be sure to try connections with a normal router or hotspot too.

This linked I have checked it..and I tried it as well..

1. I am otherwise connected to my university's wifi on my windows 8 machine. So wifi does works as Iam able to connect to other network.

2. I tried each and every step mentioned in this blog..when I enter my network name..security type..encryption type as WEP and security key information..and I hit next..I then click on "Change connection settings"..on the security tab..I cannot see " shared" in security type. It just shows me these options :
a. no authentication
b. WPA Personal
c. WPA2 Personal
d. WPA Enterprise
e. WPA2 Enterprise
f. 802.1X
So there is no "shared " mentioned in this tab.
What should i do? As this is the most important for internet sharing.

Sorry

But there still a lack of detail.

I read about item 1 but have yet to read how the apple is getting its internet. If it's university's wifi, then back to them for a possible second account for your other laptop. Many of those systems don't share because they did something odd.

I guess I'm not being clear here. Think about what you would need to know if you worked such an issue. I'm not there so I can't see what you see and can't know you are connecting to some local star sync cloud spinner.

Details - Windows 8 to connect to Apple to share internet
Nov 26, 2013 11:27AM PST

I am attempting to connect a windows 8 Nokia phone and a windows 8 microsoft surface tablet to an airport extreme connection in an iMac 17" LCD 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo system with OSX 10.6.8 in order to share the ethernet network connection. Tried 128-bit and 40-bit airport setup and neither Windows 8 device can connect. I can connect without security and I can connect a Windows 7 via WEP security.

So, hopefully now you have enough details to provide the answer???

Sorry no.

I can't decipher the network setup from this post. I could guess the Nokia phone and Windows 8 Surface is the source for the internet but that's so far out I doubt you'll find support.

Let's try this from the top.

What is the source for the internet?

If it's some cell phone then we want to enable its hot spot.

A workaround.
Aug 29, 2013 1:17AM PDT

Since we don't know more at this point here's a device I carry with me for sniffing out issues as well as adding connections when the laptop's WiFi is cranky. -> http://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-WNCE2001-Universal-Internet-Adapter/dp/B007CO5DZ4

I will share that many are upgrading Windows Vista and 7 laptops to 8 and that's an issue all its own. That is, the old issue of drivers and more bite them. To fix that is too specific a discussion to the make/model of the laptop but is an issue that dogs Windows to this day.

We have many posts and even with repeated notes about detail I have yet to figure out how the Apple is getting it's internet.

There are issues if you attempt to share over the same connection as you get your internet and well, I have no reason to write about that yet.
