internet sharing

Jan 27, 2006 7:16PM PST

hi
can some one please help, i have a broadband connection (cabel) connected to my belkin router which in turn connects both a laptop and a desktop file share is always avaliable, however the internet connection falls off after about 20-30mins at best. i then either have to reset the router or if i'm lucky after about 5-10mins the internet connection will sort itself out.

if anyone can point me in the right direction it would be great.

many thanks

Try updating the firmware for your Belkin router. You can also try updating the driver for your network card.

I agree with byker49

I like byker49's suggestion about downloading the latest firmware for the router and downloading the latest driver for your wireless adapter.

Don't use the driver that Microsoft Windows recommends in Windows Update. Use the wireless adapter driver from your computer mfg or wireless adapter mfg.

You also want to scan for viruses and spyware. Use more than one antispyware program.

i have updated the firmware and spoken to the belkin help desk, this didn't help

i also run various different versions of spyware and anti virus on both laptop and desktop (at the min norton for anti virus and ad-aware se for the spyware)

i have also tried a different router (d-link wireless) but this one didn't really work either (it was worse than the belkin)

for some reason the windows updater will only allow the laptop access but not the desktop this has only been since the router was installed, could this have anything to do with it?
