internet service won't connect after trying to download

I purchased AVG internet security. it downloaded w/ errors. removed my norton like asked, now i can't connect to my internet service. I paid $90 + for AVG, I don't have that, I don't have norton and now I don't have my internet service. can't get AVG tech support to return my e-mails and for "LIVE" support, it will cost me $20 per 15 minutes. What a rip off. their crap screws up my system and I have to pay for service I've never used? calling one of their resellers, gave me something to try but if that doesn't work, wants me to bring it in for $25 to look at it. I'm sick!

I am running windows xp. I tried unenabling my firewall. no luck. I'll look at the web site you suggested and go from there. thanks for the advise as I am pretty unformiliar when it comes to tech problems with my pc. never really had any problems until now!

or message when you try to connect? What firewall are you speaking of when you say "I tried unenabling my firewall"?

error message reads - a connection to the remote computer could not be established. you may need to change your network settings. as for the firewall, someone at a computer store suggested I try turning off any firewalls that were enabled. so I did.

The article [Q314067] explains the procedure that you can use to troubleshoot TCP/IP issues depends on the type of network connection that you are using and the connectivity problem that you may be experiencing. Use either the instructions in the topic Automated troubleshooting or simply click Start, Run, type netsh diag gui, and then press ENTER.

Note: As instructed, "look for any items that are marked "FAILED" in red, expand those categories, and then view the additional details about what the testing showed" and if you have further question concerning "FAILED" items, included them in your subsequent posts.
