Internet Service Provider

I was told That we should report spam to the spammers ISP. How do I find out who the ISP is for a spammer and how to contact them?
Thanks,
John

Good idea in theory

The trouble comes in that many spammers use fake return addresses. The more intelligent ones tend to use spoofed IP addresses making it pretty much impossible to backtrack.

Besides, it's already pretty well known that in the US most spammers are using UUNet, and they don't seem particularly interested in doing anything about it at the moment, so everyone else is just SOL. If the spammer isn't even operating within US borders, then the situation gets even muddier.

If the solution to spam were as simple as sending a note to the ISP, there would have never been a spam problem like there is today. I'd spend more time of finding ways to avoid getting spam and filtering out the spam you do get.

First, my advice is to not report such since it "marks" you as a live email. Some "ISP" are merely a front to send the SPAM. I hope you apprecate why I write 'don't do it.'

Second, almost all SPAM is not from the sender. DEEPLY DISCUSSED in the Security Forum and as such, this will be my only reply on this thread. It's not that I want to seem unfriendly or uncaring, but with all that has been written, it's best to not have me duplicate it for everyone?

In closing, until a new solution is found, you get to install or use something to dump your spam. As it stands, you can expect it to grow once your name gets on a list. Your attempts to remove such from lists only worsens the issue since they know that your email address is "live."
