Audacity

It's in the title; audacity is freeware that is also open source so you can tranfer your work to your PC buddies if you are working on something with someone else. It is very easy to pick up and uses multiple layers for the editing. (unlike some editors that only let you cut and paste your way though your show on one chanel) try it out. I used to use it on my pc (when I had one) now I use it on my mac! It's great!
