Internet Radio: Need advice

Apr 7, 2005 6:46AM PDT

Hi, I am looking for a software product, that is simple to use, a fully integrated solution.

There is a feed here for monsters in the morning, that operates from 6am -11am EST.

http://ccri.eonstreams.com/ccri_fl_orlando_wtks_fm.asf

It is available on monsters.fm

I have played around with some internet radio tools, and I find that (the three I tried) do not meet my needs. There seems to be a lot of them, but it is difficult to tell them apart.

What I envisioned was a product that I could set on a PC that I would keep up all the time, that would be set to record the entire show daily. Then I would transfer the files in hour long segments to my PSP to listen at my leisure. (A psp being like an ipod)

Can you suggest a product that will do that without having to edit bat files and so on? I want it to be 'set it and forget it' type of automation.

I tried audioextract pro, and I found that it seems to require that I pick from a list of radio stations that it maintains, and I cannot be sure those stations are always available.

I would also pay a service a premium, if I could use it to schedule the recording and then log in and download the files from that server, thus not requiring me to leave my PC up all the time and dedicate it to the purpose of recording this radio show. I doubt there is such a service, but that would be a great idea.

that is great, but
Apr 7, 2005 10:32AM PDT

Hi,

Let me clarify, I am not a batch programmer, or a mod hacker who is going to get into the config sys and dot hack and all that jazz.

I want to boot up software, plug in the link, tell it to get it m-fri between 6am and 11am, and record the file, preferably in one hour segments so I can more easily load up my PSP to hear it.

I don't mind paying for the software, it doesn't have to be free.

Then just let it record for hours, then...

Use Audacity to cut it up as you see fit.

Survival skills on the PC usually means... one day you'll write code.

what time is it? well here, build a clock
Apr 7, 2005 11:31AM PDT

If people ask you what time is it, do you tell them to download the specs on a watch and build a clock?

Hehehe.

Thanks friend. I am again, looking for a complete finished software package. I don't mind paying for it, as long as I can get the files daily.

Recap. You have your answer. AUDACITY.
Apr 7, 2005 10:36PM PDT
http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.pl?TimedRecording writes "you can use this trick to do simple timed recording with Audacity 1.2."

Also on the same page I read "For scheduled recordings on Windows, see also: AudaRemote."

It appears my first answer is spot on, but you didn't dive in to research it yourself.

Why?

Please stop helping, my friend..I still need advice

We are going to have to agree to disagree here. I appreciate your persistence in offering help, its refreshing to be able to get an answer at all on a forum asking for help. However, you are diminishing my ability to get the answer I am looking for, by maintaining that you have answered my question.

I can only use analogies, because I think you and I are on a completely different wavelength. Let me try one more time, and then I want to restate my question.

If someone asked you:

?Hey, I need a WYSWYG Word Processor software that is easy to use and doesn?t require any special knowledge, you just open it and start typing, I want it to be compatible with everything and not require me to convert file types. I don?t mind buying a commercial product.?

My guess is you would not answer immediately ?MS WORD?, instead you would give him VI, or EDLIN, or some kind of linux based open source office application that requires someone to convert and edit, etc. because you are biased against a tool like Word. Correct?

So what you gave me, Audacity, I did check out. It?s a sound editor. The theory of leaving up a 24 hour a day recording, and then cutting down the files and editing it, is not even close to what I seek.

What I seek, and why I may have to start a whole new thread, because I really do need help is quite simply:

There is a radio station located at www.monsters.fm that allows listeners to click on a link to listen to their show from 6am to 11am mon ? fri. What I want to do is set up a permanent schedule using a software product that requires no programming. I am willing to pay up to 200 bucks (US) for software that will do this.

Once I supply it with the link, I would like to set up a schedule for each hour of the program, so that the file is chopped into nice easy to move one sound files. I don?t have to reset the program, or do anything other than check the directory and move the files to my PSP and delete the old ones.

That is all I want. There is internet radio products like audio extract pro that I?ve already checked into that don?t do this, because they rely on some kind of special list of radio stations. Its pretty close though.

Typically, I?ve been given responses that sound something like this (and I exaggerate a little here to make my point) ?What you want to do is first download the java runtime environment and then set up a consys.cfg file, and then convert to mpeg-4 codec but make sure the file overrun buffers aren?t set to 30, otherwise you?ll have a ram overrun buffer mode on your 44 mhz, and that?s obviously bad. Now once you install that, then install the freeware fossil driver, and load that in your autoexec.bat, then convert that to a .exe using a CC+++-/-* editor that you can get in dark basic, but make sure you strip the spyware from it, then use bit torrent to download the ??

I don?t want to do any of that. I want to buy a single piece of software that I point to the correct url, schedule to record the show mon-fri, it makes unique file names and I just go in and move the files. Set it and forget it. Simple.

Yes?

AUDACITY and it's addon = What you asked for.
Apr 8, 2005 2:37AM PDT

I offered it to start with since I know it well. I just didn't look for the timed recording. One more look and there it was.

There are a few members that expect spoonfed answers. And that's not what I give. Here's why.

-> It's you and me looking for the solution. This is not "tech support".
