Internet Providers Sued Over User Downloads

Dec 7, 2003 3:12AM PST

Canada's songwriters sought to require that Internet service providers pay for their users' music downloading habits in a case that could generate millions of dollars in music royalties.

In the case Canada's Supreme Court heard Wednesday, the 70,000-member Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada also wants to extend the nation's copyright law by applying it to offshore Web sites that serve Canadians.

It'll never work. That's like charging the government for crime. Haha.

The right way to go about this is to force internet providers to monitor downloads to see if people are sharing music, but than that goes into a privacy issue.

I wonder what industries and companies will do in the very far future when we'll be able to share memories of music and films with each other. Hmmm.

Sooner or later the people involved in producing music on DVD or other media are going to get sick and tired of losing billions of $$$$$ in revenue. Will be interesting to see how Johnnie Thief reacts when it becomes a great deal of trouble to steal someone elses work and creativity and or $$$$$$ investment.

Stealing=stealing and using the net to do it doesnt make it right!
