INTERNET ON THE RUN & ON THE ROAD ON MY MAC LAP TOP

Sep 2, 2005 6:28PM PDT

Is there a way i can get internet when i am out on the road in my car. I dont want to pay alot and i want it to be as fast as possable. I have a apple macintosh powerbook17 1.5gig with blue tooth and airport extream built in. I would like to access the internet from my car or when i am out away from home and work. Is there a special cell phone or devise or provider out that i can use? And do they suport macintosh? I would realy like to use my mac on the road to access the internet so i dont have to run to a dial up or ethernet line or find a hot spot.

Tmobile

You could try using a cell phone service that offers internet access via their phones. The phone you use would have to be Bluetooth capable.
The speed is S L O W but essentially what happens is:
Powerbook modem is set to dial up, via the Bluetooth connection, the number of the Tmobile ISP. The modem dials the phone.
Connection is established in the same way as a regular dial up. In most cases, regular dialup is faster!
Another method, still using a Bluetooth phone, is to use your current ISP and dial-in to it. Remember, long distance charges may apply
There may be better alternatives but I have not heard about them

Verizon

I have just seen a commercial, on TV, for something that Verizon is offering. They call it Wireless Broadband and, from the commercial, seems to be what you are looking for.
I have no further details. You might want to check out the Verizon website

there's text beond the title. what's up with that?

The text does explain the title, but it doesn't answer the question of this thread , regardless.

Look, I can do that too!

I tried the spitting thing, it only works if you are facing down wind. Facing the other way causes errors and most of the transmitted data comes back to you.

my eyebook and it kicked me in the leg !

1 question... what does (nt) stand for ?

also the verizon wireless broadband - I believe - is based on a cell phone style communications network of towers that has been in development for some years now. Interestingly enough, a few major cities like Philadelphia first suggested using it to provide FREE broadband internet to its' citizens to encourage education in low income communities (kind of like the free computer in schools program that apple and ms have been doing for years) and further economic development. OF COURSE this resulted in many broadband companies that originally depended on very "expensive to maintain" capital investments to sue these cities in an effort to keep their death grip on... uh... I mean... protect, yeah, protect their market share of broadband provision (provider-ship ?). The gist of the matter is that many large cities that were gonna give its people free city wide broadband were stopped from implementing these relatively cheap to build networks and private companies protected the american way of life by taking these same plans and charging way more than FREE for the service !

That showed those commie cities !

"Free" computers

must be another urban legend.
No free computers from Apple or Microsoft. That's what all the fuss was about over in Cobb County a short while back
