Question

Internet keeps going out.

Aug 15, 2017 1:47AM PDT

Hello, for a few years now my internet has been going off and on. I never really thought about asking for help, but it has been really getting on my nerves lately. Anyway, my internet will stay on for sometimes 5-8 hours before cutting out for maybe a minute or so. 5-8 hours is rare, especially 8. It is usually 4 hours and the most common is maybe and hour or 2. Sometime it'll go out, come back on for a few minutes, cut out, and it'll be back up and repeat the cycle with a random cut out time. Last year, the cutting out stopped for a few month and slowly crept back and started doing this again. I have 2 routers, one is the one my internet provider hooked up and it is connected by a bridge to a netgear router. I don't try to mess with it other than turning it off and on, as I had it set up for me and I'm afraid to mess it up. If anyone knows any fixes, thank you.

- If the internet is out, is your home network still on (that is, can you still access files from other computers in your Home Group)?
- If you connect a PC/laptop with an Ethernet cable to the modem provided by your Internet provider directly does that still work during such a outage affecting all other (wireless) devices?

My Home Group is not accessible, no. Also, no, connected to Ethernet still doesn't fix the problem and it still cuts out.
