Question

internet keeps dropping.

May 27, 2016 5:09AM PDT

My internet service keeps dropping. I have Windows 7 pro and Xfinity. Is there software to log errors that are causing this so I know if it's my PC or myprovider?

Answer
Have to write no.

I've seen software claim it can tell what it is but after decades of working network issue I can report that I've yet to have software tell me "it's this or that." I do use tools like an Android phone with a WiFi Analyzer to check out the location and another laptop to see if it's OK on my good laptop and phone.

Given such sparse details I have to write it's going to be a rough haul.

you really did not provide any info to work with. is it wireless or wired? You may be able to access your modem logs to see the drops.

INTERNET KEEPS DROPPING
May 27, 2016 9:40PM PDT

Sorry. I have an xfiinity modem. for both LAN and wifi, however the computer is wired. The problem I am trying to avoid is if xfinity comes out (which is what they want to do) and the problem is my computer, I will be charged.
So, does anyone know how to access the modem logs?

need modem full model number

it may be faster to find out how to access the modem logs if you do the search yourself. that is what most here would have to do to answer your question. you can also post the full modem model here.

a couple things you can do

make sure there are no spitters in the line between your computer and the modem. if you have another computer, give it a try on the same line. try a different cable. open the computer and make sure it is dust free.
