Internet keeps disconnecting

Aug 24, 2007 2:26AM PDT

Before I state my question, I would like to thank anyone who looks at this, and alot of thanks to the people that help me with my problem.

Anyway I have been using a "Westell Versa Link Model 327W"

You can see a pic here, same thing but mine is black.

It is pretty old, maybe 3 or 4 years.
It has worked perfectly fine up until about 3 or so weeks ago.
I keep getting disconnected, the modem light is still there that says I'm connected to the internet, but the web pages will not load, and after about one minute, it will just say "Cannot connect to server"

This happens about every 5 minutes or so, and lasts about 3 minutes. It's weird, because it does not effect AIM, or games, you are always still connected.

I'm not sure what the problem is, but if anyone knows a solution it would be greatly appreciated!
And if nothing works, I will probably just buy a new modem and see how that works.

Thanks in advance!

I have a 325w too.

It did that too and after a call to Verizon support it failed their line test. I swapped in my older model and router and that worked fine while Verizon did their work to replace the 327w.

I think some will not make that call and try to fix it themselves but unless you are lucky enough to have a spare DSL modem I fear most will end up reinstalling the OS, drivers or more.

Are you saying?

So are you saying that I should make the call to Verizon, and if it fails their test lines, they would work to fix me up a new modem?

No.

I'm sharing my experience. It's your choice to call in or not.

firewall restricted?

If your Westell modem is bad, nothing should get through.
Test to see if the firewall is set on high. And make sure to add a network to your firewall. AIM and most games automatically do this.
To see if your modem is working check it out by typing the following in the address bar: 192.168.1.1

To check that theory, turn off your firewall for the test and try to get on to the internet.

2) Check to see if you have a dsl filter connected to the line that is to the modem. Take off the filter and plug directly into the phone line. (That would cause the Dsl to drop every few minutes).

Check the phone splitter, and make sure that is working properly also. Take out the phone line splitter and plug the phone line that is directly connected to the dsl modem to the phone jack. And if that does help, replace the phone line splitter.

I would guess that someone other then yourself may have hooked up the system and placed a dsl filter on the line were you needed the dsl signal.
