Question

Internet Just went out

Jun 18, 2019 8:29PM PDT

HI, I was on my laptop. HP with Windows7, and all of a sudden I had no internet. I have Verizon Fios. When I clicked on the icon, there were no connections available. Nothing even showed. My router looked fine, but I did reboot it and after awhile it did come back. Why did this happen please? I have had Fios for a few months and nothing like this ever happened before. When I was doing the troubleshooting on the laptop, it said to turn on the wireless button?? I do not recall every seeing one. Thanks so much for your help

how do you expect to get help if you do not provide the full model number of your laptop. until you do, there is absolutely no way for us to know if there is a wireless button or if there could be a combination of fn keys that need to be press to turn your wifi back on.

You are correct. Unfortunately, I cannot find any label that has the model #, or I would have included it

Internet Providers Aren't Always Perfect...
Jun 19, 2019 8:33AM PDT

Based on your description, it sounds like your FIOS company had a hiccup. Unfortunately, it happens sometimes. It might be a line break somewhere in their system or one of the main boxes failed. When enough subscribers call the company regarding the problem, they can sometimes fix the problem in their office. Other times, they have to send out a technician to fix the line in your neighborhood.

In your case, if you had an internet connection previously, it suddenly went out, and it returned later without you doing something to the laptop, then it's not the wireless button on/off switch. (Some laptops have a switch on the front or side of the computer, while some have a button on the top of the computer which turns the wireless network adapter on or off.) Check the specs or owner's manual for your HP laptop model and you should find the button mentioned and some HP's use a "Connection Manager" app to turn the wireless on or off.

Hope this helps.

Now that the internet is working

Pay close attention to the lights on the router.
Just to see what's normal.
If the internet drops again look at the lights to see if there is a clue.

check the router logs or even the modem logs. sometimes you can get clues as to where the problem is. if it was an os problem, you can also check windows event viewer for error messages.

ISP or router session break
Jun 20, 2019 2:22PM PDT

There are times when the Internet connectivity session between the router and the ISP is cut off for some reason. Also, routers can lose connectivity to Wifi or wired connections to lapses in the router's handling of the open session. Older routers can become flaky, too.
