Internet issues samsung TV

by Stanwix / May 31, 2013 8:42 PM PDT

I have a SMART samsung TV, net gear wireless router and virgin media broadband

My tv will connect to the wireless router but not the Internet. The following message appears:

Connected to the wireless network, but not the Internet
Check DNS settings in IP settings, or contact your Internet service provider to access the Internet

I have checked the IP and DNS settings which seem fine

I called virgin media, spoke to five different people only to find out they can't help me unless I pay for a virgin media support package

Someone mentioned something about my ISP not recognising the MAC of my new tv?

You state you checked the IP and DNS but I can't see these so try this.

Tell a lot more about distance to the router, the make/model/version, firmware version of the router and remember that other than alphanumerics in any name, ssid, etc. can cause trouble. Start at 20 feet to the router.

Hi Stanwix,

Sorry to hear about this. I'm going to guess that you're in the UK to be using Virgin Media, but I could be wrong. The last thing you said about Virgin not recognizing your MAC address: that would lend me to think that they perhaps have management of your router. If that's true, they may have MAC address filtering enabled.

Recently, a US customer had similar symptoms: connecting to wireless network, but not getting Internet access, and I believe the answer to his problem was that his ISP was blocking unauthorized MAC addresses. So definitely, explore that option.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
