Internet HD video problem!!

May 27, 2009 7:31AM PDT

i have a toshiba satellite a305 s6825 model, 3G ram, integrated family chipset graphic card Sad 1.83Hz

i have dsl ultra from bellsouth and getting 1.4 mbps.

Home premium vista. used internet explorer, now using google
chrome(very cool)

any ways, i have no problem streaming videos on youtube or anywhere else unless they are 720p HD vids. this is not a computer problem, cuz i load fast 720p HD vids everywhere else, and that includes my Grandmothers house which has an even cheaper package of dsl(lite).

so whats the deal, is it my house, i did speed test on speakeasy and other sites getting 1.4mbps. its frustrating me so i need some help.

thanks.

From my understanding (and uses) of DSL,
May 28, 2009 3:29AM PDT

it is very subjective to noise, electromagnetic is what the isp call them. Check you your light dimmer, florencent light, etc. in your house and see if there are any that are the cause of the problem. Other than that I don't think there is much you can do.

My experiences with dsl problems are; light dimmer, dsl modem, and the last one that cause me to concluded DSL are not very reliable (at least in my area)..the services cut off from 8pm to 8am every day. This ends my dsl day for now. But I hope you have better luck.

let me be more specific. i only get good streaming HD video on YOUTUBE when i am in other places like work and my fiance's house. i have a westell modem. dsl ultra with bell south. i have read many reviews saying 1.0 mbps will be able to stream hd video well, some don't. i have 1.4mbps and the dsl rating for ultra is 1.5(1.4 is right at it).

so it's lighting in my house? noise? im not sure, is it just dsl in
general?

if anyone has had experience with this package, please let me know, or any dsl problems like this. other hd vids on other websites work well.

I don't have any experience with HD streaming,

I do stream regular video with a streaming receiver but don't know what format or resolution it comes through the internet. It require my connection to be at least 0.8 or better.

My guess with HD video, it would require at least double that bandwidth if my quick calculation is correct.

By the way, what speed do you get at work...or your girl friend's house?

Generally speaking...

Cable internet can beat out DSL any day. 5mbps vs. 0.78/1.5mbps. So that is where the problem maybe. What service capability are you suppose to have? If it's 1.5, you would be lucky if you get around 1 in actual speed.
