internet/firewall problem

by salve51 / April 13, 2006 10:19 AM PDT

I currently have DSL internet hooked up through a dlink router and I am using Norton firewall from Norton Antivirus 2005. For some reason sometimes when I turn on my computer the internet will not work. The usual solution of turning off the router and dsl doesn't work anymore. I notice when I go check the firewall configuration it only has the default programs listed and the internet will still not work. I can't change it to home on the firewall and to get the internet to work I have to restart my computer. I have a Sony VCG-RB30 Desktop running windows xp service pack 2. Does anyone know why this is happening?

Ok well I scanned for spyware and viruses. Here are the results:

Spybot:I got this result that says-->Windows Security Center.FirewallDisableNotify: Settings (Registry change, nothing done)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Security Center\FirewallDisableNotify!=dword:0

However I 've had that message before this problem and was told that I shoiuld ignore it.

Ad-adaware:no critical objects, 7 neglible objects

Norton:nothing found

Spyware doctor: I got a result but it relates to because of espn, so it's no big deal and a i also get a false positive because of windows media.

CWShredder:nothing was present
