Internet Explorer won't load any pages!

Mar 7, 2004 4:49AM PST

Hi all,

I am forced to use Netscape as my browser (which is okay) because IE 6.0 will not load any pages. It just returns "Page Not Found" for every site that I go to. I have ran numerous Spy bot removal programs and anti virus software but to no avail. IE just won't load any pages. I am using IE 6.0 on a Windows XP platform. Anyone have any ideas on how to get IE back to it's original state?

The article "Troubleshooting Browsing Error Messages in Microsoft Internet Explorer" describes the steps you can use to troubleshoot the following error messages:

a. The Page Cannot Be Displayed.

b. Internet Explorer cannot open the Internet site Web address. A connection with the server could not be established.

c. The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.

d. Cannot find server or DNS Error.

e. An internal error occurred in Windows Internet extensions.

Note: If you don't find anything relevant, step-back to the main page titled, "Internet Explorer Support Center" and start on another item.

The provided support link doesn't work...

The link provided by cursorcowboy doesn't work...and doing a search for the issue is like finding a flea in a haystack...I've noticed that a lot of people are having this problem with IE, yet everyone's answer always seems to be, "your configuration isn't right" or "you need to change your explorer settings" or worse, "check your internet connection"...well, these aren't real answers and aren't helpful. I noticed that IE does this a lot to pages that I KNOW work...like yahoo.com. I got upset and downloaded Avant...but it runs on the explorer engine and now it's doing the same exact thing. I'll have to reload a page 10 or 15 times to get it to load. I'm sick of it. Isn't there a good, lean browser that doesn't rely on IE, but that will still browse the internet?

Note the age of the thread...

The link CursorCowboy provided was concerning Internet Explorer 5.0 back in 2004. The browser has gone through several revisions since and is no longer supported by Microsoft, which likely explains the broken link.

Now, if you're looking for an alternative browser, Firefox is always a good option...it is free, runs on multiple platforms, and does not rely on IE in any way.

However, some pages require that you use Internet Explorer to view them, so it would be advisable to try to fix IE. I'd suggest starting a new thread and providing the details of your problem, starting with version of IE and operating system.
