Sep 29, 2008 12:36AM PDT

It takes between 20 and 30 seconds to open Internet Explorer.
How can I speed this up.
Thanks....Peter

I saw that on a 512 megabyte machine. We had to add more ram. Now at 2.5GB ram.

Ask what's changed since it worked.

Some install anti this and that and find the combo was toxic. Here I know not to install various combos. But no where have I find a list of "this and that is bad".

For starters
Sep 29, 2008 12:57AM PDT

For starters, for numerous security and privacy related reasons, you should be treating Internet Explorer like a leper with the plague.

So, in addition to Bob's suggestion, what do you do in regards to spyware control and removal?

So is Int Explorer risky and if so what are the alternatives? Thanks Guys.

Yes
Sep 29, 2008 2:08AM PDT

Yes, IE6 will probably forever hold the title of most exploited program in the history of computers. IE7 is an improvement, but not by nearly enough. Basically, until Microsoft either completely gets rid of ActiveX, or overhauls the entire system, Internet Explorer will always be a magnet for spyware/malware.

Possible alternatives include Mozilla Firefox, Seamonkey, Opera, Safari, and Chrome. I suggest trying them all and keeping the one you like best.

Let's not misrepresent things
Sep 29, 2008 7:46AM PDT

Let's not misrepresent things, since that doesn't do anyone any good. Much as I like Firefox, it's not an end all solution to things like this.

It really is only a step in the right general direction.

Some moderation is in order when trying to promote something such as Firefox. Get a little overzealous and you end up hurting "the cause" more than you help.

It seems you don't like Opera or Chrome.

Can you explain?
