Internet Explorer Troubles

I have a hewlett packard operating a Microsft XP. While my computer is running I keep getting pop-ups from Microsoft Network Services that just has the name of a certain product and a question mark. When i try and close them they pop-up an internet explorer window from webforuser.com. After about five minutes I open up the task manager and I have about thirty internet explorer applications running. This repeats itself about every five minutes. What is the problem?

IE Problems

In reply to: Internet Explorer Troubles

I don't mean to be flip, however; trouble, thy name is Internet Explorer. Go to www.mozilla.org/firefox, and get a trouble-free browser without pop-ups, pop-unders, pop-thrus or pop-corns. It's the cats pajamas! Twentythree skidoo!

Quite possibly

weforuser (or something else) has got spyware or viruses on you machine. A couple of things you can do. BLocking the popups from appearing might stop this whole process (POW is fairly good). Or if not get some serious spyware/virus-busting program and find what exactly is causing this. I've found the Microsoft Anti-Spyware to be really good for this, it cleans out all the nasties from your entire system, although you should watch you don't delete anything essential as some programs won't run if you do. Ad-watch SE Professional by Lavasoft is also great. It monitors your computer for any changes to the registry, so nothing can be put onto your machine (trojans, cookies etc) unless you approve it. It's annoying in that it also comes up when you manually change something, but that's a small price to pay. So if the prolem is virus or spyware related that should do. Hope this helps

If you must use Internet Explorer ...

In reply to: Internet Explorer Troubles

Download the latest Version 6 SP2, which has a built-in pop-up stopper. Then, to strenghen your security counter measures, Download Spyware Blaster, Ad-aware SE, Spybot S&D, AVG 7, CWShredder, Zone Alarm, etc., These are tools to rid your machine of parasites, not perfect nor exhauctive, but helps a lot. BTW, they are free. Google for them for information and downloads.

Spyware/Adware

In reply to: Internet Explorer Troubles

It's not so much pop-ups but adware that is installed on your machine. Use the Adaware from Lavasoft but the SE version for personal usage is free and very good at finding just spyware and adware on your machine. Be sure to update the data file first then let it run. it may take some time to finish, but then check everything under both tabs and delete all. that should clean your machine. then get Spyware Blaster, it'll stop alot of programs from being loaded through active-x routines and block many sites from adding junk.

to no avail

In reply to: Spyware/Adware

I downloaded Se lavasoft and Spybot search and destroy, yet this problem still persists. If I leave my computer for five minutes, I will have thirty internet explorer processes running in my task manager, but no windows on my screen.

I have the same adware problem on my kid's computer 200 mhz w/32 meg ram and windows 98. I have webforuser loading up pop-ups faster than I can get rid of them. and yes, they have the same small window with a question mark. I have been looking for fixes on this for about an hour this morning and heard that I could go to my regedit and delete the info.
Anyone know how this can be done and whether or not this will work?
