If I read "Recently I tried to open ports through I.E. for an application", I immediately think that I.E. doesn't open ports.

Something important has been omitted from your post.

I keep the original ie.exe installation file on my computer, and if IE6 begins fouling up, I save my favorites to a file then re-install the whole browser. Then I go to Windows Update and get the updates that were lost in the re-install. You could try Add/Remove Programs, Windows Components, and uncheck Internet Explorer. Restart, then go back and check it again, then restart. Might work. Check all of your proxies in Internet Options, too. AOL does a lot of funny thing with their bloated software programs, and makes many changes. After I dropped AOL, I had to do a clean reformat and reinstall of Windows to unload all of the AOL garbage lurking in my registry, dll,s , etc. Now my provider, Cox, provides only a connection. I've run none of their software, and created my own connection in Networking. Works great. With a plain motorola surfboard modem, when I do a speed test, I rate higher than DSL or even a T-1.
Hope this helps.
