Internet Explorer has encounter a problem ... winshow.dll the problem

I'm working on a customers computer when I open IE I get IE has encountered a problem and will now close. I have found a criptic msg from Dell saying that it is related to spyware and they would be happy to fix it for a price. (which I do not want to donate to)

This is a XP system P4 with all updates in place.
IE has been updated.

if you already suspect it is spyware, then you need to run a spyware scanner to remove everything from there first. Spybot and AdAware are two of the most well known. it wouldn't hurt to run a virus scan at the same time.
