Internet Explorer Future Support ?

Dec 15, 2003 8:10AM PST

Since support for Windows 98 ends in about a month what will happen to the other programs Microsoft supports ?
Will programs like Internet Explorer and DirectX remain compatible to the Windows 98 system as they are updated for XP etc. ?

Some will and some will not...

such as MSN Messenger. Newest is 6.1 but not available for Win 95, 98, or NT 4.0.

One shouldn't realistically expect anyone in any business to continue expenditures on old tech after support is discontinued.

Bob, IE and DirectX will lose Win 98

Check the way it is for users of 95... the highest stable version of Internet Explorer they can have is 5.5 SP2 which will lose support eventually too, and the highest DirectX is 8.1.

Keep a close watch on compatbility notices at the updates site, and learn to download and save those updates as well as install them. Time will come, they won't even be available at the downloads library or the MS archives.

Time will also come, when the system even updated to the max possible, will have more holes than a Swiss cheese (ignoring it's present papal hole-iness)

This is where users must ensure the borders are well protected, and non-essential srvices turned off. Which everyone should already be doing anyway, of course. Happy
