IE6 is exploitable and is not trustworthy at all. You will encounter folk that will use it in spite of all warning so you wait to see it blow up.
Any reason to not suspect malware damage (again)?
And with that out of the way I'm guessing this is XP. There are compatible browsers such as Firefox without such exploits so easy to execute but then again you will encounter folk with all hooves firmly dug in. Let's hope you are not working with such folk.

A few months ago, wanted to get AVG 2012 for my computer, had some problems, spoke with an AVG Tech to solve problems, nothing worked. (Purchased/downloadable 2012 New Version through Internet Explorer) AVG Tech, suggested that I upgrade my old operating system service pack from 2 to 3, so I found a trusty "Microsoft" site, and downloaded/saved to computer, then ran/upgraded my computer operating system up to 3/per the AVG Tech advice to put my computer in better operating status for the new AVG application to work better.
Problem: The upgraded Service Pack, totally destroyed my Internet Explorer 6(at the time). I tried everything, I called Comcast/ISP Broadband provider/ first words out of the person I contacted (tech help)/ that its not their fault, try Microsoft. I called, no help. I upgraded to Internet Explorer 8, I added a Security Application, no help, still dead.
With Internet Explorer dead, the $80.00+ I just spent on the new 2012 AVG Application wouldn't work, in fact, I haven't been able to download anything from the internet, since IE died.
Now having as a back-up AOL (not the best, but better than nothing), I later just gave up on trying to get it to work.
New Problem: I just recently purchased $200.00 worth of online multiplayer gaming equipment, and the hook up to the wireless linksys router through the computer and the Comcast Modem, seemed to go well, my XBOX 360 picked right up on the Wirless Adapter.
So when I conduct the Configuration to get to Xbox Live to sign up for a new membership, that I just shelled out $60.00 for, it goes fine until the router trys to connect with the computer, hence again, Internet Explorer.
I pinged my IP address, and the 4 packets all failed. So now, being literally broke, I guess I'll just stay offline for another 8 years or pay through the nose to the "Internet Explorer" Extortionists and their HP "Accomplices".
