IE is considered part of the OS, so can't be removed by Windows. However, you can download a freeware program called ieradicator to remove it. Be sure you have a replacement (like Mozilla) working before you do so, if you want to download the latest version from the web. You might like to export your favorites and making a copy of your email before removing IE en OE.

But, depending on the cause of the problem, it could be the whole operation doesn't help. However, it doesn't harm to try.

Consider using minimize and letting IE stay in the taskbar in stead of closing the program, if you can't fix it. Or switch to Mozilla permanently (except for some site like Windowsupdate) that do require the use of IE.

Good luck,

Kees

I know IE 6.0 does not ship with 98, and it was installed by the end user. You do have an option, go to add/remove programs in your control panel, open it, in the list of programs under the general tab, scroll down until you find Internet Explorer 6 and internet tools. Click on it to highlight it, then click the add/remove button. It will provide the option to remove it, or repair it. Choose the repair option.

The article [Q153965] explains that the Auto Disconnect feature is designed to terminate a connection to an Internet Service Provider (ISP) after a designated period of inactivity ONLY and to prompt a user to disconnect when all instances of Internet Explorer has been closed.

a. No Disconnect Prompt When Quitting Internet Explorer (Q193555), because a system registry entry is corrupt.
b. Dial-Up Connection Does Not Hang Up (Q235666).
c. Prompted to Disconnect When You Quit Internet Explorer 5 (Q256085).
d. Not Prompted to Disconnect When Quitting Internet Explorer (Q256302).
e. Client Disconnects After Five Seconds with Netscape Web Server (Q269179).
