my internet explorer 8 consistantly freezes, would I have fewer problems to another Web Browser such as Firefox

Maybe, maybe not. It depends on why IE is freezing. If it's because of malware, then the odds of another browser helping would be very high. However if it's due to something like say an outdated version of Flash or some kind of hardware problem, then probably not.

Also, check the add-ons

I would do an elimination test with IE's Add-ons, (Tools > manage Add-ons). Disable all, test IE. Enable one at a time and keep testing. Any add-on that causes the freezing, disable again.
