I use blank for my start page but yesterday on start up the screen although named 'about blank' showed a full page entitled
SEARCH FOR
with a detailed index showing many options and an entry box with a GO button
The properties screen shows 'unknown protocol' and other items 'unavailable'
anyone now how to uninstall this

The tools screen does not have any effect

Tony, Your browser has been hijacked. Go to the links below and download, install, read the directions, then update and run Ad-aware and Spybot Search & Destroy. They're both Free and make sure that you update them prior to running them.

If after you run the above 2 programs and you still have the "about blank" hijacker go to the link below and download the CWShredder tool. Close all open windows and run it and let it fix whatever it finds.

Your internet explorer has been commandered by a adware that came with some program that you downloaded that was supposedly "free". They don't tell you that it also includes such things. You definetly need Adaware and Sypbot to stop this and other problems. After installed and both are updated(important) and ran you will be amazed at the multitude of bad things that are on your computer. Be sure to read and understand each program after installing it. Both are free. You can donate to Spybot which is a good idea, the programmer is a real genius that does this only to help others.

Get Adaware at: http://www.lavasoft.de/

Get Spyware at: http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=download

Good luck!
