General discussion

Internet explore vs. firefox

Aug 2, 2005 5:48AM PDT

I have a p4 1gb computer. My computer is equipped with mcafee antivirus and firewall. I also have on it adaware, spybot, and microsoft antispyware. On top of that I use the spyware blockers from spybot and microsoft. My point is that I have been using firefox since it came out but there are websites that still dont look or load properly with it. My question is has anyone who has been using IE since all this spyware/ virus stuff started have had any real big problems because of IE. And is all the protection I use on my computer enable me to use IE without being worried.

Yes.

I help people out every day.

In my opinion, the spyware has turned nasty and does deeper damage than last year.

I always use IE.

I use ''SpywareBlaster'', free, TO LOCK my Home Page, and prevent hijacking;
Tools, Misc. IE Settings, Disable the IE Home Page settings area in the Internet Tools Control Panel

http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

***

And I use the Hosts file:

I use Starter to view and manage all the programs that are starting automatically whenever operating system is loading (after new install, and reboot)

A free antivirus;

www.free-av.com/

No spyware here, or virus.

My Firewall: Outpost Pro, and the Java and ActiveX are executed just if I allow it.

I won't give all my tricks... a short answer is: YES, it is possible to use IE.

If you use SpywareBlaster to lock your homepage, some programs like Ad-aware reports a FALSE positive alert about it.
Just ignore the warning.

There is an extension for Firefox

That allows you to open an Internet Explorer page using Firefox. You can even set up a link so that certain sites ALWAYS open using IE.

It's called IE View and it makes jumping to IE whenever a certain page doesn't look "right" with FF very simple. Just right click, cliek "open with IE" and the page reopens using Explorer instead. It's god send because, let's face it, some pages just aren't optimized for Firefox yet.

No problems with IE

I have no antivirus software, but do have a firewall and antispyware software. I haven't had any security problems with Internet Explorer.

The only problems I have had, however, is the browser crashing sometimes when Macromedia Flash objects are loaded on Web pages. I've never had this happen with Firefox.

Firefox loads Web pages somewhat faster than IE, and the browser itself has more useful features such as extensions and tabbed browsing.

Having alot of protection causes problems with opening pages on the web and also difficulty in downloading programs
