Question

Internet drops regularly

Dec 28, 2011 9:30AM PST

Hi, I have a MacBook Pro, using Mac OS X, version 10.6.8. I use Safari as my browser and virtually every time I am online (which is daily), the internet drops. Although I know the internet connection is not great (all computers seem to struggle with this in the house), the Mac is exceptionally bad. It drops every time online. Also, it typically drops when another tab is opened. Then, I have to wait for it to magically work again.. usually a couple minutes.
I can supply other information, just not sure what. The internet is wireless, company is Comcast. All other computers are PC's and don't work great but do work better. Thank you, Amy

Let's check the basics.

1. Router defaults then
2. A simple broadcasting SSID (hiding it will cause drops.)
3. WPA2 AES for security.
4. Move away from channel 1 and the one at the top of the selection.

I did explain the steps. These are very basic things we would do if we configured any router today. I put out the steps in short form as easy as I could.

Yes, I know. No one wants to learn about their router or any router for that matter.

your response, however, I am not familiar with how to configure a router. I do not know where to go to do this. I am happy to learn but this is not something familiar to me.

To learn is usually by doing.

If you care to supply a link to the manual for this router I will cover in a little more detail where the instruction is to say, set the channel.
