General discussion

Internet download great, upload bad.

Jan 25, 2009 12:47AM PST

Hi.
I have just uprgaded to ADSL Extreeme with my local Internet service provider, Telus.net
Running dslreports.com speed test, I get the following:
Download 50 to 70% better than average from Telus.net
Upload 7-30% worse than average from Telus.net.
Guess I would like to know if upload is normal or not, and if not, what can I do to improve it.
Have Windows XP Home, IE6
Have tried some of the normal tweaks, but nothing seems to improve the upload speed.

I can't see what problem you are having. Are you expecting your connection to be average? If so you call up your ISP and make it known what you want from them. It's not your machine, modem or such but them. Them's got to fix your line.

Upload bad

Hi, and thanks for your reply.
What I amexpecting is my internet to fly, with the best service that I am paying for. Upgrading to ADSL Extreme has improved my browsing, however, I still find that graphic intensive web pages still take too long to fully load.
Hence my original question.

The real issue is

Are you asking the people who can fix it for you?

I see nothing in your post that would indicate it's your problem. That is nothing in your post points to router, PC, settings.

Just to be clear. Are you asking them to fix it?

If you feel you don't get what you pay for ..

it's time to start measuring the speed. Then compare it with the guaranteed speed you pay for and start complaining with your ISP if it's too low. With what you have at the moment, you won't come far.

Just a couple of facts . . .

1.) The A in ADSL means Asymmetrical. Witch translates into download speed higher than upload speed. Normal for an analog signal.

2.) Your speed is not guaranteed. Read the fine print.

Complaint? Call your ISP.
