Question

internet connection stops working on laptop when macbook on

Apr 17, 2017 11:43AM PDT

Hi guys,

I really hope you can help me out here:
I have a laptop (ubuntu) and a macbook. When the laptop is online (wifi) and I connect the macbook on the same wifi, it becomes impossible to use internet on the laptop.
The laptop only works if macbook is offline.
Strangly, any other device such as Ipad, Iphone etc does not create any conflict.

What can I do to fix this issue?
Thank you very much

Clarification Request
What channel is the router on?
Apr 17, 2017 12:01PM PDT

Is the router firmware current?
Is the macbook running a torrent?
Does the internet work if you wire up to the router?

Hi,
thanks for answering.

Not sure I know what it means "what channel is the router on"?
1) the router has a firmware but I tried disabling it and did not fix anything
2) macbook has a torrent but I am not running it
3) by cable the laptop is working just fine so it seems to be somehow related only to wifi

As torrents are there.

That's too likely to be the source of the troubles. Some torrent users go into denial, some lash out, many demand support. Here I bow out when there are torrents. Just too many troubles.

As to you not running it, most of these run in the background and soak the connection rendering it unusable except for the torrent app.

PS. Just to sum it up.

Remove, uninstall all torrent apps.

But you could ask that in the Mac forum here. It should be somewhere in the Network settings in the macbook.
