Internet connection stopped after 15 mins

Hi, I have just installed Windows XP Pro, connected to broadband. The trouble is that after 15 mins connections is stopped automatically. Also noticed that as soon as the the connection is made there seems to be automatic files downloading activity. it's very quick too. The hard disk has been format to free from viruses.
help!

The tip on posting:

Having said that:

* What XP version & SP1 or SP2?
* After format & reinstall are all drivers fully installed & updated?
* What steps have you taken to protect & scan for spyware, trojans & viruses?
* Are you running P2P programs like Kazaa, iMesh, Limewire?
* Have you called your ISP Tech Support?

also are you using usb connection or a nic card for broadband?
