internet connection sharing problems

May 10, 2010 10:05AM PDT

I currently have a windows 7 computer connected to the internet through a wireless connection. I want to connect a mac to the network by putting an Ethernet cable from the mac to the win7 machine. Does anyone know how to do this? By the way i think it works differently just because i have a wireless connection.

There are countless ICS articles.

Mostly as a testament to how it can tax us to death. To find these articles, google WINDOWS 7 ICS to get started.

I have tried that but the instruction for ICS assume that you are not on a wireless network and i cant quite get it to work.

That setup is noted.

You only need to think it over and answer the questions differently. Think over that one interface is like the other. So your ICS serves up on the ethernet port.

Again, you have to be a good networking student then a guru to make this work. It is far from automatic.

The THIRD hit of Google WINDOWS 7 ICS is http://discussions.virtualdr.com/archive/index.php/t-237754.html and writes about a wifi to ICS on the ethernet port.

Almost every setup has been discussed but I find most to get lost with all the 192.168.0.x and 255.255.255.0 and such.

And let's not write about firewalls.

Okay so heres the deal now. I got the ICS set up so that i can connect to another windows machine and i get internet on it. When i connect the mac though, I'm on the network and can share files I just cant go online.

(NT) Typical of a firewall issue.

solved

I do not know why ICS did not work but I solved the issue by just creating a network bridge. I don't know why anyone would use ICS when they could use network bridging.

More than one way.

ICS and bridges both work. I find many don't want to learn about TCP/IP or use prior discussions. ICS being the more agile solution solves a few other issues.

Glad you found a way.
